A Little Older, A Lot Bolder @ Robataya Izakaya Japanese Restaurant | 23 Mar 2026

We always bypass this restaurant whenever we shop at 1U but had never wanted or curious enough to eat there. Tak kenal maka tak suka. 

Today we celebrated 1 of our beloved 🥰 Darlings birthday and had our dinner here. "Happy Birthday, B! Many more beautiful memories & blessings for good health!" ♥️

Color me surprised! The foods @ Robataya are delicious!  First timer experience perhaps.

On that day the restaurant was very short-staffed, and our order ended up with twice the quantity of food entered incorrectly.

I like the pancake cabbage with prawns. Mind you, I always received YouTube feeds about this dish cooked in different styles. Had salivated over it and told myself, one day am gonna cook it, see if it's as good as it look. Well... it's real good, restaurant quality 😄
Pork belly is a preferred choice in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese cuisines due to its rich fat content, which enhances flavor while creating a tender, gelatinous, melt-in-the-mouth texture highly prized in East Asian cooking. It is exceptionally versatile, serving as a succulent component in braised dishes, a crispy highlight when roasted, or a savory, fatty cut for grilling. When pan-fried, it develops a deep umami richness that further elevates its taste. It's also a "high demand" part of a pig. 

We finished our meal by having a scoop of yuzu ice-cream.

Then we walked over for a snack and coffee at Melaka Corner @ 1U.

13 Nov : All of us got up before the crack of dawn only to read a message from Air Asia informing us that our 930am flight to Miri will be delayed to 11am+, then in the airport while waiting, we were informed it'll be delayed again to 1pm+. The twice delay messed up our plans in Miri. We were so tired upon arrival that we checked in to Jinhold Serviced Apartments and opted to eat in its in-house Mak Restaurant .  Too tired to do much we ordered pizzas, to our surprise it was good, so good we ordered them again on our stay before our trip back to Semenanjung. 14 Nov : Before we went to buy all the stuff for the program in Niah National Park (NNP), we went for a  dim sum breakfast. A Tapestry of Blooms For the past weeks I have seen more blooms from this tree species. The flowers have a fragrant smell and is one of my favorites.    Plumeria  is commonly known as  frangipani , highly aromatic and famous for its intense, sweet, and exotic fragrance. While Malaysia does not have the traditional four seasons, the period from March-May is often considered the "spring" season or the inter-monsoon season in terms of travel and weather patterns.  Other flowers are also busy blooming too... Today at archery class we downloaded a score sheet app which helps keep track of our marks during practice. I shot 5 ends (shoots) of 6 arrows each , for a total of 30 arrows , and achieved a total score of 261 points . This gives an average of 52.2 points per end and 8.7 points per arrow .   After a while, the arrows went every where, to the coach's dismay :D  Despite wearing an arm guard, the bowstring still hit my arm twice. :( 3 days later, the bruise is still colorful. The game is fun but not so whenever I sustain a bruise.  In the evening.... We took a walk at The Kota @ PJ in the evening. Was tempted to go for the Denai Forest but since its evening the thoughts of mozzies discouraged us.
